AUSvTPE Olympic qualifier

After a spectacular 8-0 demolition of the Philippines in front of a record crowd on Sunday, the Matildas closed out the second round of their Olympic-qualifying campaign with a 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei

Young gun Mary Fowler broke the deadlock with a long-range thunderbolt and Sam Kerr scored Australia’s 900th goal as the team posted the win in Perth.

Fowler trapped a floated pass and took one more touch before unleashing a powerful strike from 20m to send the crowd wild.

The result meant Australia finished on top of Group A with a perfect nine points from nine and a goal difference of plus 13.

North Korea, Australia and Japan have already secured their places among the final four in Asia, and either South Korea, Uzbekistan or the Philippines will join them.

But who plays who in the two-legged play-offs remains to be seen, with Australia hoping to avoid world number 8 Japan.
